Scott leads Morrisville State to 67-53 NEAC win over Abington

Sophomore guard Nijee Scott (Bronx, N.Y.) tallied 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead host Morrisville State College women's basketball to a 67-53 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over visiting Penn State Abington Sunday afternoon in Morrisville.



Morrisville State improved to 2-8 overall with the victory, 1-1 in conference play, while Abington dropped to 0-9 overall, 0-3 in NEAC action.



Scott added four assists and four steals to her tallies on the day, while teammate Nijah Townsend (Bronx, N.Y.) added 14 points and controlled the glass with 14 boards. Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 11 points to round out top scorers for the Mustangs, adding five assists. Dyshea Smiley (Harlem, N.Y.) had a game high six assists.



Trish Watson led Abington with 18 points, adding three rebounds and three assists, while Jaclyn Vandiver and Elizabeth Rymal contributed nine and eight points respectively. Gabrielle Benedict led Abington with nine rebounds.



Morrisville State led 31-30 at the half, before posting a 14-3 run midway through the second to take a 12 point lead over the Nittany Lions with just under eight minutes to go.



Vandiver brought Abington to within eight with five minutes remaining, but Morrisville State hung on for the 67-53 conference victory.



Morrisville State returns to the court Wednesday at SUNY IT. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
