Morrisville State women's lacrosse captures regular season title with 13-10 victory over Keuka

The Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team captured the programs first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West regular season title Sunday afternoon, topping rival Keuka College 13-10 in Keuka, as they posted their 10th straight victory this season.



Morrisville State completes the regular season with an 11-4 overall record, 9-0 in conference play, while Keuka drops to 10-2, 7-1 in NAC action. The Mustangs will await tournament seeding, which will be announced early next week by the conference office.



Senior midfielder Hillary Hartnett (Fairport, N.Y.) led the Mustang charge with four goals, as teammate Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) added three goals and an assist. Erin Rundle (Marathon, N.Y.) posted three tallies, including the eventual game winner seconds before the end of the first half, while Jamie Anderson (Harpursville, N.Y.) and Jessica Young (Clifton Park, N.Y.) rounded out scoring for Morrisville State, netting two and one goals respectively. Alison Falkenburgh (Bayport, N.Y.) registered two assists.



Danielle Puzio (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded the win between the pipes for the Mustangs, making 12 total stops, including nine in the second half.



Keuka's Jennifer Burt led the Storm with three goals and an assist, while Maggie Bonafede, Kay Kostuk, and Taylor Smith each posted two goals. Kaycee Maguire rounded out scoring for Keuka with one tally.



Molly Hogan turned away nine in the loss for the Storm.



In a back and forth opening half, Morrisville State rattled off four straight to open the scoring margin 8-4 with 12 minutes to go in the first period, before matching Keuka tallies in the final 12 minutes, to claim the 10-6 advantage at the break.



In the second, both teams traded scores, with Keuka adding a final tally with 2:05 to go, but the Mustangs withstood the Storm attack, posting the 13-10 victory.



Playing a nearly even match, Morrisville State held the narrow advantage in shots on the day (29-28) and won the draw control battle 14-11, as Keuka tallied 27 ground balls to the Mustangs 26.



Morrisville State awaits seeding for the conference championship, which will take place Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29. Details will be made public once released from the conference office.
