Impact Area: SUNY Morrisville (Morrisville Campus, Norwich Campus, EOC)
General Subject Area: Smoking Policy
Specific Subject Area: Health & Safety
Author: University Police / Human Resources

Policy Summary

SUNY Morrisville has established a smoke-free work environment. Smoking and vaping are prohibited in all college buildings (including residence halls), all College /MAC /College Foundation vehicles, within a 20-foot perimeter of all buildings, and at least 100 feet away from the Child Care Center in Bailey Hall.

This policy applies to all members of the college community including faculty, staff, students, volunteers, trainees, consultants, contracted staff, vendors, guests and visitors. It is the responsibility of all members of the college community to observe and abide by this smoking policy. The effectiveness of the policy relies upon the thoughtfulness, consideration, and cooperation of smokers and non-smokers for its success.

The college community should be aware of this policy and the college’s obligation to enforce it. Informal counseling, formal written counseling, and appropriate discipline can and must be applied as necessary to ensure the college’s compliance with the New York State Clean Indoor Air Act of 1989 as amended, to avoid an assessment of penalty for non-compliance.
