Our Bachelor of Technology degree in dairy management prepares you to manage a dairy operation from herdsman to owner – and every position in between. Graduates of the program are well-equipped to succeed in the dairy support industries, with many graduates securing employment immediately following their final internship opportunity.

Learning by Doing

Students in the dairy program will learn all aspects of dairy cattle management, from newborn calf care, fresh cow monitoring, milking procedures, reproductive management and dairy cattle nutrition. Additionally, students learn what it takes to run a successful dairy enterprise using the productive SUNY Morrisville dairy farm as an example, incorporating many agricultural business and agricultural science courses in the curriculum. First-year students get introduced to milking techniques during their first week of classes, while fourth-year students help with management decisions of our dairy facility during their last semester on campus. The degree program culminates with a semester-long internship experience, with students choosing an opportunity that best fits their interests and career goals.

SUNY Morrisville is committed to meeting the current and future needs of the dairy industry. Our state-of-the-art free-stall dairy facility houses 150 milking cows as well as an electronically enhanced milking parlor and a student-managed computer system. The facility also features two growing heifer barns, a weaned heifer barn, a calf barn, a maternity barn and a livestock/show barn to provide students with a true hands-on experience. The college’s 500 acres of cropland ensure a supply of forages for the herd.

Upon graduation, you will take pride in an industrious skillset that will drive your career.

Student, Dairy Management B.Tech.
I chose Morrisville for the hands-on learning, small class size and to be around other students who wanted to learn more about agriculture. SUNY Morrisville is such a great place for anyone wanting to further their understanding of the agriculture industry. I have been actively involved in the college’s dairy club and will serve as the club’s president for the Fall '21 term. Upon graduation next spring, I hope to pursue a career in dairy nutrition or reproduction.
