Office Technology Certificate
Students are trained in proper keyboarding and machine transcription techniques, word processing skills and procedures (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), data entry, business letter (persuasive, informative and negative letters using goodwill strategies) and report writing, English grammar and spelling, basic accounting principles, telephone etiquette, mail procedures, reprographics, filing and other office administrative duties (handling employees, organizing and maintaining e-mails, delegating tasks among office staff, developing office policy and procedures manual, etc.).
Also, students will be required to complete up to 90 hours of internship experience which will be useful for the students in obtaining employment upon graduating. In preparation for this internship experience, instruction focuses on resume writing and cover letters, as well as the interview process.
This online, one-year certificate is designed for the student who wishes to develop core office skills or update existing office skills. Typical students enrolled in this certificate program include:
- High school students who desire a certificate in place of a AAS degree. In this Certificate, you do not take the State General Education courses (i.e., Math, Science, English, History, etc.).
- Individuals who have been out of the workforce for many years and may want to update their office skills before returning
- Individuals who currently work in the field but need to show certification in order to be eligible for promotion
The Office Technology program is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
