What MSC professor has influenced you and why?
“Professor Rogers, who teaches biology influenced me. I find it interesting to learn facts about biology, knowing the itsy-bitsy things about your body. It’s pretty cool. Professor Rogers teaches the class in a way where you want to go home, go over your notes and actually study. I would come back to class rejuvenated and excited to participate in the discussion and to learn more things. Professor Rogers is awesome!”
Medical Office Administration A.A.S.
Each spring, students in their last year of study in the Medical Office Administration AAS Degree and Office Administration AAS Degree/One-Year Certificate programs are required to participate in Portfolio Day. As students work through their classes (upon arriving on campus their first semester), they are made aware of this event and are urged to begin saving their work to display in a portfolio during Portfolio Day. The day consists of a variety of administrators (both from on campus offices or from local companies) coming to campus to interview students in a “mock” interview fashion. Prior to Portfolio Day, students receive training in the following interview areas:
- Preparing a resume
- Designing and presenting their personalized portfolio
- Dressing appropriately for an interview
- Answering questions typically asked in the interview
Each student participates in two mock interviews which take approximately 12-15 minutes each, during which time students are taking the interviewer(s) through their portfolio and explaining their “story”(which might include academic projects they performed, volunteer work, leadership opportunities they obtained, etc). When students are all finished with their interviews, the interviewers then sit as a panel and discuss with all of the students collectively in an open forum things they saw throughout the day (praising students for the good, allowing questions to be answered from the students, etc.). This is an experience that really prepares students for that "first real interview" they'll have upon graduating. Students are well prepared for this day and come to appreciate all the hard work and effort they put into it. They leave with a sound Portfolio which displays their best work.
Employers think this event is unique at Morrisville and has separated our students from other prospective candidates applying for the same jobs.
