Alumni Profile: Bobbie-Jo Norton
Hometown: Pennbrook, NY
Graduation Year: December 2013
Why did you choose to attend Morrisville?
“I chose Morrisville State College because I like the small town atmosphere. I was really nervous to start college by myself. I came from a super small high school, so it was a good transition into a two-year program. It set me up nicely to start here and transfer for my bachelor’s degree.”
What activities have you been involved with on and off campus?
“I’m in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and a Resident Advisor. I liked meeting all the new residents in my building and being able to help them get to know Morrisville and their RA. I also like to play intramural soccer and broomball.”
What MSC professor has influenced you? Why?
“I would say my advisor, Professor Vosteen. He does accounting outside of teaching and he’s helped me to better understand what accountants do in the real world. It’s good because I’m still figuring out if this is what I actually want to do and what to focus on.”
What has been your favorite campus event or activity?
“I think Welcome Weekend was my favorite. I didn’t really get involved my first year, but being an RA, we made tie-dyed shirts and made signs with the new residents. It was a great opportunity to meet them.”
What are your plans after college and/or your career goals?
“I think I want to go into taxes; or financial accounting. I’m continuing for three more years of school so I can get my CPA certification. After I pass the CPA I want to either work for a firm or open my own tax business.”
What advice would you give other students?
“Get involved on campus. Get involved in activities, clubs and things going on so you can meet more people and make the most of college.”
