Alumni Profile: Dennis Reid
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY
Graduation Year: May 2014
Why did you choose to attend Morrisville?
“I came to Morrisville because I saw an opportunity to enhance my success in my future endeavors. I wanted to study nursing, and build my career to be successful in the future. I recently graduated from the Medical Administration program.”
What activities have you been involved with on and/or off campus?
“I volunteer in food services at the food center where they provide food for homeless people. They like to call their homeless people, patients. Since I was in a scholarship program where I received textbooks, I like to give back. I work in camps as a counselor where I get to mentor kids. This helps me in my career which is to be in medical administration or a nurse. Before I graduated I completed a dual internship with the MSC Institutional Advancement Office and the Children Center.”
What “fun fact” can you tell us about Morrisville that is not well known?
“I don’t think the students appreciate the environment enough when the weather does get nicer. When it’s spring time, you get to see all the flowers bloom and blossom. You also get to sit down in the grass and enjoy the sunshine. You get to do more creative stuff in the spring. The pond is also pretty cool, because you get to sit around the pond and relax with your friends. It’s really the thing I enjoy the most about Morrisville.”
What MSC professor has influenced you? Why?
“Professor Rogers, who teaches biology influenced me. I find it interesting to learn facts about biology, knowing the itsy-bitsy things about your body. It’s pretty cool. Professor Rogers teaches the class in a way where you want to go home, go over your notes and actually study. I would come back to class rejuvenated and excited to participate in the discussion and to learn more things. Professor Rogers is awesome!”
What has been your favorite campus event or activity?
“Mustang Weekend is my favorite. Everyone comes out and everyone gets to have fun. All the families come out and it’s all laughter and fun times. It’s a big gathering and it’s cool.”
What are your plans after college and/or your career goals?
“After college I plan to move somewhere warm, but right now I’m here in development. After my internship was finished in the Institutional Advancement Office they hired me for the rest of the semester! I like enhancing my future and working in different fields. I want to achieve greatness!”
What advice do you have for other students?
“You should always be friendly and try to make a lot of friends, because you only have one chance in life. And you should have fun!”
